What services does Stepnote offer?
Primarily, Stepnote seeks to find great students for great music teachers. We aim to do this by using our unique personal matching system: this takes into account several important factors,
including instrument, geographic area, favourite genres, and skill levels.
Music tutors can apply to join our service by filling out our application form.
When your account is approved, your profile will appear in our music teacher results page when students matching your criteria search for you.
Students can then request a lesson with you.
You will then receive an email to notify you that a student has requested a lesson with you - you then log into your Stepnote account and approve or reject
the student in seconds, based on their profile that we send to you.
Joining Stepnote benefits you as a music tutor by ensuring that your time is spent doing what you do best - teaching! Stepnote has 4 years experience in music, marketing and the internet: we are qualified and passionate about learning music. We will ensure that the right students come to find you, and not the other way round.
Stepnote also offers teachers the ability to add musical events to our website; we offer online promotion for these events and will also manage attendee registration and payment processing for all events and courses.
How will joining Stepnote help my teaching career?
Stepnote aims to provide a comprehensive online service for music teachers. The main focus of our site is to match great students with great teachers - the more satisfied that
both parties are, the more your career will grow. Our courses and events section will allow you to create one-off workshops or a series of musical courses/events without the hassle of handling
registrations, customer enquiries, or payment processing.
How much does it cost to register with Stepnote?
It is currently
free to register a profile with Stepnote.co.uk (subject to approval).
What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept Visa, Mastercard and Maestro/Switch through the Google Checkout system.
If you prefer to pay by cheque or bank transfer, please contact us by email or telephone, and we can arrange this for you.
What happens when a student requests a lesson with me?
When a student requests a lesson with you, you are sent an email notifying you of this.
When you log into your account, you can see a brief summary of the student's details, and can choose to accept or reject the student based on this information.
If you accept a student, you can then see their full contact details to arrange a lesson. If you reject a student, or do not respond within 3 days of receiving the email, they are sent an email to notify them of this and are free to choose another teacher.
Note: In order to run an efficient service, we request that if you do not want to accept a student, that you log into your account and reject them. This ensures that the student is not kept waiting for an unnecessary period of time.
How do I delete my profile?
You can remove your profile from our website's search results temporarily by clicking the 'Pause Account' button in your Account page.
If you would like your profile permanently removed, please contact us via email.
Why do I have to pay for registration?
In order to provide a quality service and to continue to improve our services for music tutors, we have to charge a small fee for yearly registration.
For your registration fee, we protect your privacy from identity fraudsters, automated spam robots, and provide a quality online profile that is accessible to
students looking for you, which you can update and customise at any stage.
What about tax?
It remains your responsibility to declare any income earned from your private tuition, and to pay any relevant taxes.
How does Stepnote find students?
Stepnote advertises both online and offline in order to promote its service to students.
We are also in contact with universities, schools, music shops, studios and more in order to spread awareness of our service.
Are there any restrictions on where I can teach?
No - as long as you fill in your home address (or if you will be teaching at another address, the 'other' address field), students in your area will be able to find you.
- You must have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience if you are self-taught or a degree or similar qualification in a musical subject.
- You must be capable of teaching at a nominated address (ie your home, studio, etc) or at a student's house.
- You must be willing and able to accept at least 2 students referred to you by Stepnote.
Am I allowed to use other sources than Stepnote to get students?
You may continue to use all of the resources that are available to you.
What happens if no students are referred to me by Stepnote?
Of course we cannot guarantee that you will be referred any students from Stepnote, so if no students have been referred to you within the first year of registration,
we are happy to offer a full refund for your year's subscription.
How long does it take to get in touch with a potential student?
It depends on the lessons you provide, the qualifications you have got, the level of demand in your area, and so on.
We cannot guarantee that you will get any students by registering with Stepnote.
However we are happy to refund your full year's subscription fee if you do not get a single student referred from us within a year.
