Student terms & Conditions

What defines a match?

A match occurs when the matching criteria defined by the student and the teacher match 100%. The criteria are laid down when students apply for a teacher and when teachers apply to be signed up with Stepnote.

Our online matching system is developed by Victor Connect Ltd and Stepnote Ltd and is a highly sophisticated system tailored towards finding students their perfect music tutor.

What happens when I send a booking request to a teacher?

When you make a booking request and you have paid your booking fee, your profile will be sent via email and text message to the relevant teacher.

If the teacher accepts your profile, your booking fee will be charged to your card.

Next full profiles, including all contact details and addresses are exchanged, and the teacher may contact you (or vice versa).

2-3 days are likely to pass from the time that you request a booking to you receiving his/her contact details - depending on how long it takes both parties to respond to emails.

Prices

Stepnote reserves the right to increase prices at any time.
All prices are inclusive VAT.

FREE - student profile creation and 2 months on waiting list if no teacher is currently available.
£2.00 - provision of full teacher profile including contact details of a teacher (following approval).

Additional terms and conditions

Getting started

Any available teachers matching your profile will be presented to you online once you have submitted your search. If we are unable to refer you to a teacher, please contact us and we will endeavour to find a teacher for you that suits your needs.

Getting in touch with a teacher

When a teacher has accepted your profile, the teacher's full profile including all contact details will be emailed to you by Stepnote. You are then free to contact the teacher to arrange the time and date of your first lesson.

Payment

When you send a booking request to a teacher, you will be taken to our online payment portal. When you have completed this process, and your card details have been checked, your booking request will be sent to your chosen teacher. Your card will only be charged once the teacher has accepted your booking. In the event of a teacher rejecting your booking, you can either request another teacher at no extra cost, or request that we cancel your order - in which case your card will not be charged.

Right of cancellation

Once your teacher has accepted your booking, the agreement to pay the fee owed to Stepnote for matching you to a teacher becomes binding.

What if one of the parties does not pay the fee owed to Stepnote?

If payment is not made by either party, the match will not be complete and no money will be charged to either party.

What happens if both parties have paid but a lesson does not take place?

Neither Stepnote nor the teacher can be held financially liable. Our fee is not refundable should the lesson fail to take place for any reason after both parties have made payment.

Getting started with the lessons

Both students and teachers are responsible for contacting each other once the full profiles (including contact details) have been exchanged. Whoever gets in touch first is not important. If you have not heard from your teacher 2-3 days after our email notifying you of a successful match, we recommend that you try contacting them.

Note: Stepnote's service simply includes arranging for teachers and students to be put in touch with one another. We cannot be held liable for teaching that fails to get started.

The amount payable for lessons must be paid directly by the student to the teacher. Stepnote cannot be held responsible for any disputes between students and teachers.
