What instruments do you provide teachers for?
You can view a list of the instruments that we provide teachers for by looking at the instruments in the drop-down menu on our
Teacher Match page.
If the instrument you would like to learn is not included in this page, please contact us and we will endeavour to help find your perfect teacher in your area.
How much does it cost to find a teacher?
It is free to find a teacher's profile that matches your needs.
However, in order to complete the match and contact the teacher, students must pay a booking fee of £2.00.
This helps us to provide and improve this service, and ensure that the teacher receives students that are serious about learning their instrument.
How long does it take to get started with my lessons?
When you have requested your teacher, they will instantly receive a text message notifying them of your request.
They will then review your profile; when they accept your profile you will receive an email with the teacher's full contact details.
You are then free to contact the teacher (or they will contact you) to arrange a time for your first lesson.
How does the matching system work?
Both teachers and students submit personal profiles specifying relevant information. From these details we identify your perfect match.
Both teachers and students can view each other's profiles before booking the first lesson, and can therefore make an informed decision about whether they wish to proceed.
When a match is complete, both the teacher and the student will receive full contact details so the first lesson can be arranged.
How does Stepnote find music teachers?
We are in contact with universities, schools, music shops, and other institutions. We also use offline and internet advertising to spread awareness of our service to music students and tutors.
What are the qualifications of the teachers?
All of the teachers registered on Stepnote go through quality checks, and their profile must be manually approved by our staff before they appear on the site.
You will see from the education and experience details on our teachers' profiles that they are all highly skilled and qualified teachers and musicians.
Stepnote also performs checks with the CRB and shows a 'CRB Verified' logo on the profiles of all teachers where we have verified their CRB cleared status. This helps to provide piece of mind for students and their parents.
What happens when I have requested a teacher?
When you have requested your teacher, they will instantly receive an email notifying them of your request.
They will then review your profile online, and when they accept your profile you will receive an email with the teacher's full contact details.
You are then free to contact the teacher (or they will contact you) to arrange a time for your first lesson.
If, for any reason the teacher does not accept your profile or has not responded after 3 days, you will be sent an email asking whether you would
like to request a different teacher from our list. If you would like to request the second match, the process will repeat until you have found a suitable teacher.
Where do the lessons take place?
Teachers can choose whether they will teach at your home, at their home, or at a different location (ie their studio).
The options that a teacher chooses will be shown on their profile page.
What happens if I get in touch with a teacher but cannot show up or change my mind?
If you cannot attend a lesson with a teacher, we request that you inform the teacher at least 24 hours before the lesson takes place.
